More about Halloween Gifts

Not a costume shop.

Halloween at Contempo is less rubber mask, more the sort of thing you would happily leave out in November. Ghosts with manners, witchy homeware, and a decent streak of gothic humour. Thirty-nine pieces this year, all in stock, and most of them under a tenner.

For the house

Six Halloween candles, including Eye of Newt in lemongrass and eucalyptus and Spider Silk Serum in eucalyptus and mint, both £9. Vampire Tears bleeding candles come as a set of four for £7. There is a Witch's Apothecary oil burner shaped like a spellbook at £15, a Ghost Stories storage box that passes for a stack of old novels at £12, and Haunted Library incense cones at £5. Black cat and witch hat trinket dishes are £9 each.

For the table

Salt and pepper in three degrees of spooky: witch hats at £10, Dracula and his coffin at £10, and an entire haunted street at £19. The Haunted Library book stack mug is £15, the black rose teacup and saucer £18, and Steel Mill & Co's Sleepy Hollow mug £17. Their Hamlet vase, at £30, is the most grown-up thing here.

For the walls

Eight Wobbly Willows prints at £22, all ghosts and gentle melancholy rather than gore. Mr Ghost And His Teacup, Woodland Ghost, First Coffee Then I Haunt, Death's Serenade. We have one of each, so when they go, they go.

For under a tenner

Most of it, honestly. A Groovy Ghost keyring at £2.50, the Which Witch Are You? spinning necklace at £2.99, witchy pencils at £4, good witch and bad witch socks at £10, and a coffin-shaped tote at £7.99. Good for a party bag, a desk, or a teacher who has earned it.

Prices run from £2.50 to £30. Everything is picked by hand for our shop on King Street in Stirling, so if you are nearby, come and have a look. If you are not, we post across the UK and delivery is free over £50.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell Halloween costumes?
No. This is gifts, homeware and decorations rather than fancy dress. If you want a cauldron-shaped candle or a ghost print for the hall, we are your shop. If you want a wig, we are not.

When should I order for Halloween?
Stock is small and mostly one or two of each, so the good pieces tend to go through October rather than at the end of it. Order by the third week of October if you want a specific print or candle.

Is any of it suitable for children?
Plenty is: the keyrings, pencils, socks and the friendlier ghost prints. Some of it, the gothic homeware and the Bad Witch Social Club pieces, is aimed squarely at grown-ups. Our children's gifts are a better starting point for younger ones.
