More about Harris Tweed Bags

Real Harris Tweed, and you can check.

Harris Tweed is the only cloth in the world protected by its own Act of Parliament. To carry the Orb mark it has to be made from pure virgin wool, dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides, and handwoven by islanders at their own homes. Every bag here is made from the genuine article.

Satchels

The ones people come in for. Islander's tartan, dogtooth and herringbone satchels start at £55 for a mini and £65 for a medium, with leather-bodied versions at £110. Maccessori's take on the shape is £59.50.

Backpacks

The Jura and the Carloway, from £59 for a mini Jura up to £80. Maccessori's mini backpacks are £53 and come in sky blue, pastel pink, country green and maple.

Crossbody and shoulder bags

The Melrose crossbody at £130 is the one to buy if you're buying once. The Ailsa is £72 and the Orlagh £92, both in a choice of tartan, dogtooth, herringbone and navy over-check.

Eighty-odd bags, from £53 to £130, so there's room for a first tweed bag and for something you'll still be carrying in ten years.

Everything is chosen for our shop on King Street in Stirling, where you can see the cloth properly and feel the weight of it. If you can't get to us, we post across the UK, free over £50.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know a bag is genuine Harris Tweed?
Look for the Orb mark. It's a legally protected certification mark and it's on every bag in this collection. If a bag doesn't carry it, it isn't Harris Tweed, whatever it says on the label.

Where is Harris Tweed actually made?
The cloth is dyed, spun and handwoven in the Outer Hebrides, by law. The bags themselves are then made up by Scottish designers, Islander and Maccessori in our case. Read our buyer's guide to Harris Tweed if you want the full story.

Does Harris Tweed wear well?
Famously. It was built for Hebridean weather, so a Stirling winter holds no fear.
